To alleviate global supply chain pressures and protect Australian supply surety, the Australian Government is seeking to assess the capability of Australian industry to domestically manufacture HF-1 steel in compliance with MIL-s-707703 and MIL-S-50783 standards at an industrial scale.
The Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator (ASCA) released its request for submissions in April 2025, calling for industry to demonstrate their ability to domestically produce HF-1 steel. This opportunity closed in May and is currently under evaluation.
This request supports the Australian Guided Weapons and Explosives Ordnance Plan, which will begin domestic manufacturing of artillery projectiles in 2028.
