The Request for Quote (RFQ) focused on alleviating global supply chain pressures and protect Australian supply security.
It addressed the following challenge statement:
Demonstrate Australian industry’s ability to domestically produce HF-1 steel that meets the MIL-S-70703 and MIL-S-50783 standards at an industrial scale.
Milestones
This request supported The Australian Guided Weapons and Explosives Ordnance (GWEO) Plan, which will begin domestic manufacturing of artillery projectiles in 2028.

The RFQ opened on 4 April 2025, through AusTender - Domestic manufacturing of HF-1 steel billets and closed on 19 May 2025.
